I was leaving work today and saw one of the boys from one of my social skills groups/classes. I said hi and he told me to shut up. I stupidly held my hand out for a high five/hard slap, but clearly we don't have as good a relationship as I thought. Instead he hit my forearm with the side of his fist. It still hurts a little bit and I think there's a little swelling, but no bruising yet. It hurt like hell at first, but not so much since.
I've worked with this population for 5+ years and this is the first time I've actually been punched. Dammit.
Anyone else done something recently that's left them wanting to rewind time and have a do-over?
Yes, he does need to work on social skills a bit more. Another staff was there when it happened and followed him until the unit staff could get there, so I'm sure they know. I didn't plan to file a report or do any worker's comp. I iced it, it doesn't hurt now, and it's not really swollen nor is there a bruise, as of this morning. I figure it's one of the risks of the job. If it does start hurting again, I'll get it checked out.
