He has been telling us for months that if the higher ups get a whiff of us moving to NJ they will fire him on the spot. We have all been saying no way that will happen.
We closed on Wednesday and they just called him in for a meeting at 1.
I am hoping they are offering to transfer him to the building by the Delaware Memorial Bridge but maybe that is being too optimistic.
Oh no! He doesn't have any obligation to live in-state for them, does he?
I hope it's not that!
No, Delaware is too small to have those sort of restrictions. I am actually closer now to my job and it's not an issue at all.
Where he works now is far from our new house but our old house isn't sold so he wasn't really pushing for a new job yet. I think since they know he will eventually leave they are just getting ahead of it.
The mortgage company had to call for verification that he is employed. HR may have told his boss. Far fetched, maybe?
and again they are just dicks. He is working on a huge fucked up project and they expect him to stay until it is complete in several years. Long term commuting isn't feasible and I am sure they realize that.
I am hoping he is just paranoid and it is something else entirely. I've been telling him since he told me this was a possibility that it didn't make any sense.

I was going to guess this. It's kind of crappy of HR to do that. I always tried to preserve some feeling of confidentiality for employees with stuff like that. I had a guy verify how long he had to stay with us before he'd have to pay back the tuition the company had paid for him. I told my boss in HR, but not his boss.
Why are you moving before he has a new job if it's clear there's a good chance of him being fired?
Our house is not sold, he is going to live there until he finds a new job and let's face it in this economy it could be a long time before it is sold. We are just paying two mortgages for the time being. His mom also lives in our town so he could have stayed there or commuted from our new house.
We are talking a little over an hour here, there is no real reason that this should even have been a real worry.
How would they know you bought a new house with the intention of moving? You could have purchased it as a rental property since prices are still pretty low. Your house isn't on the market yet right? They would have no proof of anythihng. Keep us posted.

This. Or for all they know you two are splitting up and the house is for you.
That is ridiculous.
If he is fired they have to pay unemployment right? My management company hates firing people and would rather we all quit.
