My soldiers and I have been activated. I'm on my way with them to NYC to provide security for red cross and other aid personnel. I'll try and check in when I can.
My brother lives on the lower east side of Manhattan. He has no power and isn't allowed to leave his apartment after dark because the city is concerned about looting. He has told me how thankful he is for the Guard troops already helping out, so just know there will be tons of people grateful for your presence there.

Thanks guys. This is cheesy but I'm proud of my kids. Less than 24 hrs ago they were working their normal jobs or in class and now we're packed and on the road. a few small hiccups but nothing I didn't expect so it's been fairly smooth. I'm going to try and get them pizza or something tonight when we stop to try and keep their morale up. I'll try and get some pics/info to you guys. Most of you are on my FB so you are free to share that stuff.
Good luck and stay safe. You are taking great care of your troops and I know they will appreciate that. They will be at the top of their game to do their job and the people of NYC, the Red Cross, and the other aid organizations will be so grateful to have you all.

My husband got activated too! It's kind of bittersweet because he's excited to be able to do his job, but we have planned our "real" wedding in Mexico for 6 months. Everything paid for, all the families were coming. Now we're probably going to have to cancel it.
I'm just going to think really happy thoughts that they'll somehow get him back in time.
