I can't speak to the hurricane, but when we lost our power and there was no gas available after the derecho last summer, there was NO information online about where you could go to get gas.
Why can't people in NY and NJ figure out how to power their own houses and businesses? Just break out an exercise bike and attach it to your fuze box with a belt or something. Geez! Slackers...

I wish you'd mentioned that sooner. I just got power back an hour ago. I would have been thin as hell if I had done that all week!
Omg it's hilarious. She had it deleted because it was cross posted here. Apparently being a jerk on her home board is ok, but not here...even though she posts here too,
I never read the whole post before it was deleted but listen, my brother is in the NYPD and even he posted to FB asking where to get gas on his way home. He had been working all night without power, arrested a looter so he was 8 hours late getting home and had to be back at work in another 10 hours with the clothes my mother fought people to get drycleaned for him since they didn't have power all week. And he has it damned lucky compared to the person Elle was complaining about. There is no "where is the gas" web site as far as I know and Facebook is a great way to share information with a ton of people instantly.
I'm glad you have power!!! My sis got it back today too!!!
I seriously started crying when I found out. It's gotten pretty hard for the boys. Ben kept crying at night. Grace actually started crying when I told her we're going home. She wanted 1 more night of a sleepover. Lol.
So yeah, thanks for listening to my bitching. I needed the outlet big time.
Started with this: 1. How do people with Internet/Facebook access not know what is going on with respect to when gas is being brought in? Aren't there disaster relief websites with that information?
2. Do they not have neighborhood meetings that people can walk to for information?
3. Why are people waiting in line for gas? Is it to get to work? Medical appointments?
I guess I'm jus trying to figure out whether I think the infrastructure sucks or the information is there but some people just not handle crises well.
and turned into this:
I will own that helplessness annoys the fuck out me. Not in the context of the elderly, or the sick, but grown women who take to Facebook asking people to solve their problems. And I know we aren't supposed to judge because we are lucky to have not been hit by the storms, but I guess I am a gross, mean, awful person because I do judge. And it has nothing to do with being poor, it has to do with the impression of weakness. This is obviously a personal failing of mine, but there is basically no context in which an educated, adult who cannot attend to her own needs does not rub me the wrong way. Again, I own this is my issue. So carry on with the flames.
Holy shit. I hadn't even seen this before she deleted. This disgusts me.
Is your friend in seaside, NY okay go-dawgs? I have never heard of it before but when I google mapped it, my heart sank. It's just east of Breezy Point, which was pretty much decimated.
As for that thread, it was fucking ridiculous.
To conserve her phone battery she is using Facebook to keep everyone updated, and she hasn't updated again. It sounds like they are safe but scared and anxious to get out.

Ditto. We had gas, thank god, and just took off for my in laws and camped out with them.
So Elle posted that post AND that reply? I saw the start of the post and figured she's realize the error of her thinking but I guess not. Wow.
At one point she posted something that sounded like a sincere apology to one poster, but apparently that poster is her friend and she didn't want to offend her, just her. She went on to defend her ridiculous ideas and doesn't give a crap about any other NYer/ NJian b/c we're not her friends. She also had ample whining about how meeeaan everyone is being to her.
Fuck her! Picture my Jersey accent as you are saying that! My home lost power for 5 days, others are still without power. I have a friend whose house was destroyed, another who had water in her apartment, my brother in law lost 9 trees. We lost 2, our gutters, a light, and roofing shingles. What about the lives lost?!
Yeah, my bil lives in highland park and still no power. He realizes he is very lucky for no damage or loss, but still awful. For so many, it was so much worse.
THe more I think about this... I just can't fathom her line of thinking.
It's not about people "not being able to take care of themselves". WTF would she do w/o power for DAYS? Or w/o gas for either her car or for her generator.?
I just found out tonight that my BIL, who lives in Brooklyn, stood in line for FIVE hours for gas only to end up not getting any.
Cripes - he's TRYING to take care of himself, but literally doesn't have the resources to do so! AND wasted a good chunk of his day.

I can't believe she was so shocked that GoDawgs remembered her real name. She is like the most notorious poster ever, right? Other than maybe GrrlyGirl and Anka? (I was mostly on MM so I am biased).
