I'm have a doctor's appointment tomorrow to get Mirena inserted. I read the literature on it last night and it said it should be inserted within seven days of starting your period. My period started early, so it will be almost two weeks. Anyone know if he will go ahead and do it anyway or is there a specific reason for the timing?
I had mine inserted at 8 weeks pp and hasn't had a period yet. I believe the timing is to make sure you are not pregnant. They gave me a pg test and asked when I last had sex, and decided I was safe.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

Yep! Exactly the same here. 8 weeks and pregnancy test.
What other's said. I Just want to add that for the first few weeks after I got it. I was a raging bitch and I'm pretty sure it was the Mirena. Things seem to have calmed down now.

I was a raging bitch the entire time I had it. But to your question about insertion, I had mine put in 8 weeks postpartum. I've heard its because your cervix is more open. Definitely take some Tylenol or something before you go in. And have a pad just in case. Some people are fine, but mine really hurt.
I think it's also so your cervix is more dilated so the insertion isn't as uncomfortable.
I haven't had one, but this is what my doctor told me when I was considering it--that the ideal time is at your first PP appointment or right after your period so that your cervix would still be slightly open and insertion would thus be less uncomfortable.
