My parents are renting a condo in Phoenix for a month in February. H and I can't go for more than a long weekend. Is it worth it to go? It looks like the Grand Canyon is five hrs away so that's obviously not a day trip. Any suggestions or should we wait for another year when we have more time?
I'm sure there's lots you can see if you have more time, but I went twice last year for long weekends to see friends and I didn't run myself ragged or feel like I was missing a bunch on such short trips. It was mostly just nice to get a little sunshine and warmth. I suppose it depends on how long the flight is and whether you'll be escaping cold and snow back home as far as whether it's worth it for you. I've got a short little post in my blog about some of what I did there.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
A long weekend is more than enough time for Phoenix/Scottsdale. You can easily go up to Sedona for the day or some of the smaller town like Prescott and Jerome. In Phoenix there are a few things that to me are must-dos, but really it's fine to just go and relax. Just depends on what you want to accomplish with the trip.

exactly this.
I live in Seattle and we go down for a long weekend during the winter months when we need a little sun.
We're flying from DC and I don't golf but H does and he could do that with my dad, I suppose. I'm more of a "doer" than "relaxer" on vacation and I guess I'd like this trip to be a fun trip v. a relaxing weekend away.
