The only road rip game we ever play is the hawk game. It's kind of silly, but whoever spots the most hawks during our trip (or a certain amount of time) wins. If you spot the same hawk, whoever sees/calls it first gets the point. If you yell "hawk!" and it ends up being a crow or some other bird, you get a point taken away. It gets pretty competitive for us, lol, sometimes we argue about the score. I'm not sure if you see a lot of hawks in your area, but there are tons in the fall/winter in the great plains. We often see 50 hawks in a few hours. We are nerds, though, this game might not be fun for anyone but us.

I don't know if I'd call it a game, but we try to make up a "story" for cars that pass us. You know, we look into the car as it passes, then we make up something silly/serious/dramatic about the people in the car and where they're going in such a hurry.
We also talk about random what-if scenarios. Like ... what if you won $100million and HAD to spend it - what would you buy/do with the money.

this and our zombie survival plan (both long and short term) are how we've spent every single road trip ever. (MH's long term plan is STUPID btw. Just throwing that out there. In the event of a zombie apocalypse we'll die quickly because we'll be bickering over his idiotic plan.)
Occasionally we swerve into other random what-ifs.
Like....
If you could have a superpower, what would it be? And why? Batman vs. Superman (vs. [insert any other super hero here]) If you could control any element in nature (not like... chemical elements. But like water, air, fire, stone, wood) what would it be? And on one memorable trip - if you had the ability to morph into any object - and you became a car, and somebody put gas in you...and then you turned back to a human - what happens to the gas?

I like to get DH to tell me childhood stories. I 'mine' him until I get to one I don't know already. It is always fun to me learning something new about him.
I like the hypotheticals games too.
Sometimes I read dear Abby or dear prudence off of my phone and we talk about what we think the person should do.
We also listen to moth & this American life podcasts.
We have this deck of cards with great hypothetical questions/situations. It is great! I'll see if I can find a link.

Oh, that's a good one. I love playing advice columnist. Savage Love would be a good one for a more risque version.
We dont' play games. We listen to an audio book, or I might read out loud. We both pack magazines and our phones, and take turns driving. We enjoy relaxing time, sometimes we talk... We pack snacks and treats...I love road trips. Nothing to do but eat and read and take naps...
We usually check out a book on CD from the library or download episodes of the Science Friday podcast to my iPod. These usually lead to interesting conversations.
DH likes to play this game where you name a famous person, then the next person says a person whose first name begins with the same letter as the previous person's last name. ie Martha Stewart, Shirley Temple, Tiger Woods, Will Smith, ect...

oh, yeah, that'd be great too! I'd like to find a good audio book as well.
Great ideas ladies! I"m going to be the life of the car this time! hahaa!
We do the alphabet game. You have to find the abc's in order on road signs / billboards. We usually say that you can't use the same sign for more than one letter and you can find x q and z out of order.
I am pretty sure that our Sirius radio has kept DH sane. I am the worst car traveler, but 8 hours of show tunes with a little bit of 70s and other eras helps DH tune me out while enjoying good music and singing along.lol
I hate sitting in a car, get bored, get carsick if I read, so books, nook, magazines and the internet are no good, and I am a talker with a brain that doesn't shut down so DH is subjected to my random thoughts and even more random questions. I am pretty sure that DH really loves me....I would have left me years ago. ;p
