Costa Rica Recs - Northwest

I've been to CR before, but never to the Northwest/Liberia/Nicoya areas. What are your favorite towns or beaches there? Does anyone have recommendations for budget friendly (under $100) a night places on or near the beach? Hotels, B&Bs or condo rentals are are welcome!

We stayed at the Hilton in Guanacaste, which was amazing, but definitely not cheap (and not worth the price either).

However, we spent a good amount of our time in Tamarindo. It was a cute little surfing town, that was much more our style. I don't have any specific hotel recommendations, but there are plenty in town, within walking distance of the beach, food, and activities. If we go back to Costa Rica, we'll definitely stay in Tamarindo.

We went to the following hotels last year on our honeymoon and LOVED them.


Hotel Bosque del Mar

Semi-private beach (but a few locals still go there, not many though). 20-25 rooms. Great food and service. Within walking distance of other hotels and a few restaurants and bars. Great service when booking excursions. Not all-inclusive, but they put everything on your room tab, including excursions.

Hotel Sugar Beach

More secluded area. Private beach. 20-25 rooms. AMAZING food and service. About a 10 minute drive to the nearby bay that the water excursions depart from. Not all-inclusive.
