know we don't usually talk much parenting over here, but you guys are the only mom friends I "see" much.
Pumpkin has NEVER been a good sleeper (if he is only up twice, we call that an AWESOME night and high-five).
This past week, he has been up for an hour to nearly three hours every night. Just wide awake and babbling. Different from his stuffy can't breathe awake. Sat night he didn't go to sleep until 11:15pm, woke up 4 times, and was awake for the day at 6:45am. Last night, he was up from 2-4:30am.
He only takes two naps (between 20min and 45 min each) all day.
Is this normal? Could it be a one year growth spurt thing? He was just to the dr on Fri and she didn't feel any teeth coming in.
Last night, I got to thinking about all of the kids/teens diagnosed with bipolar/schizophrenia/other major mood disorder and how many have poor sleep as kids. (catastrophize much in the early hours, erat?
Will he go to sleep if you co-sleep? What time does he usually go to bed (that whole philosophy of sleep begets sleep)? Was there any drug exposure? Does he have a very consistent nighttime and nap ritual?
Grayson was our crappy sleeper. He woke multiple times (and ate) during the night until he was over a year old. And once he stopped eating during the night (12m) he woke screaming every night between 10pm-3am until he was 3.5y old - and while he had his moments of just being wide awake, 90% of the time we could get him back to sleep by throwing him in our bed. When he was 3.5y we started a reward for staying in his bed all night and he completely stopped getting up and now he is the better sleeper of the two (goes to bed earlier and will sleep later.)
In any case - I hope it gets better soon. Lack of sleep is utterly miserable.
He has gone to bed between 7 and 8 his whole life. Our bedtime routine is pretty consistent. (inhaler downstairs, go upstairs to quiet room for jammies, story, bottle, bed.) He sleeps in his own crib, and I don't think co-sleeping with us would help. I have thrown him in the ergo to keep him calm and contained, and still he has been awake for HOURS.
He had drug exposure. If his sleep doesn't improve after his adenoid surgery (after Thanksgiving) the dr will refer us for a sleep study at Childrens Hospital.
This week just has been so much worse, I wondered if it was common?
I honestly don't remember what DD's sleep was like at different stages. I really don't. At one year she was already done with night feedings, that much I know but beyond that I, it's all a little hazy. Sorry.
Yea, I we defiintatly went through stages where we had bad sleep and then we had BAD sleep. I do remember it got especially bad when they were starting to walk about a year old. It was like their brains could not turn off all these exciting things that were happening. But once the novelty wore off, it went back to normal (but still waking.)
Its hard to say before the surgery...RB's sleep was terrible and all over the place, but improved greatly after her surgeries, i hope its the same for pumpkin.
I dont remember anything specific around a year, but my girls were such bad sleepers that there was no rhyme or reason to anything!
Apple has become a very good sleeper, she goes to bed at 8 and sttn, wakes around 6:30-7 and takes two naps, each around 2 hours long. Her naps shortened for a bit when her most recent teething began but have more or less gone back to normal.
