Instant Age Rewind -undereye concealer

I'd seen several recs for this on the board and bought one a few weeks ago. While I think the makeup does a decent job on coverage, I'm having issues with the applicator. It either doesn't have enough makeup on it to do anything or has way to much and I end up having to blend the excess in with a foundation brush.

Is this user error? How do you apply this properly?

I use the applicator to put it on my face but I always blend it with a brush.

I also use the applicator to dot it on then blend it with a sponge or my fingers. Most of the reviews I read on Makeup Alley before I bought it said it was great concealer aside from the bad packaging, so I went into it knowing I was probably going to have to improvise.
