No cotton! Thank your H&F for making me aware of this. Your socks should be a synthetic material, like polyester, and wicking. I have been using the adidas socks from costco- 6 pairs for $12! They are cushioned and have arch support. I like them. I also have a few pairs of C9 socks from Target, which are thin and nice for hot days.
anything but cotton! Go to a sports shop and ask for running socks. I like my smart wool ones, and my favorites are Ibex wool socks, they are thick and cushy and comfortable.

I wear thorlo, but they are a little pricey for my taste- Target also just came out with some great socks. they are wicking & say duo dry on the toes ( i have them on now)
Another vote for wool. I mostly wear SmartWool because they were the major brand ages ago when I started buying merino wool for all my socks, but there are a lot of other great brands out there today. I wear wool socks for everything now.
Definitely synthetic. I got some from Target, which are great for warmer days and I picked up some at TJ Maxx (Under Armour) which are a little thicker for the winter.

I love power sox, fit sock and smart wools. I wear smart wools on the trails or in the winter. My go-to sock is the power sox. You can get them buy 1 get 1 50% off at Dick's. www.goldtoe.com/products/Power%252dLites-No-Show.html

Smartwool is the best. But I'll be honest. I've been running for years and seriously never really had a problem with cotton. ::Shrugs::: I also wear cotton shirts though. So there's that.
I'm' such a weirdo...not only do I run in cotton tanks, I wear cotton socks. Hanes. Sadly, all of them have holes and they don't make this kind anymore, so I'm on the hunt for new ones.
