As promised, here's a pic of the green (Dill by SW). You can see the rug and some of the hodge-podge furniture we have too.
I need to change the color, it's just not right. I'm going for a more traditional vibe. I might go a little more olive and add a chair rail w/white below to lighten the room. I might have to simulate the chair rail w/painter's tape for now b/c of the holiday time crunch.
Yeah, that is a very different vibe than your inspiration.
Just a hint for choosing colors...paint companies usually have collections that will steer you in the right direction. You might be able to find good color choices for your room in a collection with historical colors, or one that says traditional more easily than looking at all of the greens.
It's your room/house, and you have to do what works for you. However, I will say, I like it. Like I said the other day, breaking it up with white, such as the white chair rail you plan to do anyway, is a good way to add variation. Maybe it's not perfect with the rug, but it's not terrible either.
With regard to more traditional, traditional can be anything you want it to be when it comes to color. A great example of bold, saturated colors can be found in one of America's most traditional homes: Monticello. Here's an example of two very colorful rooms in the house:
I know that SW has special swatches with historical colors. Try those. I agree that the color isn't right. Green is a very hard color to get right too.
Honestly the color doesn't look bad to me. I think some white crown molding could make a huge difference in the room and help break up the color a bit. I don't even know that a chair rail would be needed.
I think some light curtains would break things up too.

I really like it too, but I don't have to see it everyday like you do.
Have you tried putting the rug down and moving the furniture around to see how it really looks with everything in place?
If you still don't like it though, I think you can find a deeper green like your inspiration picture that will look a bit more traditional compared to the Dill.
I admit, I'm surprised at the number of you who like it. We're supposed to have crown molding installed next month or January. To be clear, I might just tone it down a bit, I don't want to go too safe. I might go to BM this afternoon to check out their historical colors. I still like Martha Stewart rhododendren.
You guys are starting to make me like it. Maybe you're all right about hanging drapes and loading up the room w/stuff. I was afraid it was reading a little billiard parlor. But one the reasons I chose the color is b/c I didn't just want another boring room.
Here's a PIP of the MS rhodedendron paint - it looks kind of blah and too gray against the Dill (which was my original reason for going w/Dill)
The dill is much more interesting than the rhododendron. It is a nice green...just a different vibe than the inspiration photo.
I do think that it takes more than a day or two to get used to new colors and figure out how to pull everything together. Every thing you put up on the walls (art, curtains), your lighting and your accessories will all make a big difference. The rug will look different on the floor than it does draped over your sofa.
I have a similar color in my living room (Valspar Avocado or Guacamole...) and I like it in my space, but I think that in your room the color reads a bit "Easter". I painted my guest bedroom SW Edamame, which is a nice traditional olive color that has a tad bit more brown in it than yours seems to (hard to tell)
Here's a pic of the entrway (work in progress), which is visible from the green room. I was thinking of pulling in some yellows and golds into the room.

I love it, but I love green. I do not prefer olive shades, so for me, I would stick with what you have for sure! If you are still not liking it in a few weeks, you could add a chair rail to it with the current green before changing to a different green, right?

I woud live with it until you've got at least the crown and some curtains up. I wouldn't worry about trying to repaint before the holidays.
I love that color! Then again I'm also a "go fun or go home" kind of girl when it comes to paint! I think once your stuff is back, you have art etc..it'll be fine. I also like how it does coordinate with lots of stuff and styles so if down the line you want a bit less traditional you're still good. You have to live with it though. It's not at all awful, so I'd live with it and repaint a few months from now if it still bothers you.

I like it. And honestly, I didn't think I would. Styled correctly, with the crown and the curtains and whatnot, I think that has the potential to be really beautiful. Also, it goes spectacularly well with the rug in your photo.
That said, I don't have to live with it, and IRL my color choices are relatively bland. So if it makes you happy to go with something else, do it.

For me the Dill is too dark, but I go with safe colors. I'm very boring when it comes to paint.
But I am in LOVE with that rug! Where did you get it? I want one!
ETA: I will also say, listen to your gut. If you *really* don't like it, paint over it. I picked a paint color for our house (yellow) and we've been living with it for 3 years. I have always hated it, even though everyone I tell that too says "oh no, I really like it!". But we finally hired painters to repaint it (today!) and I'm SO relieved to have that yellow gone! So if you really don't like it, just repaint it.
It is a bit dark and that room doesn't get a lot of light. That area rug is from Homegoods - $200 for 9x12, pretty great deal.
I'm probably going to leave the room for a bit but I think I'm going to change it. It's okay and I could work with the colors, but I don't think one should commit to a color like that unless you love it. I've never been a big fan of green.
