I've never AW'ed, because I've never had anything AW-worthy! So last night I just got the itch to do something crafty, so I dragged DH to Lowe's and Jo-Anne's. I didn't find any fabric I liked, so I used a curtain panel I had at the house already. DH got to use his router, so he was happy to help.
Can't even tell you how easy it was. The only mistake we made was having the board cut to 38 inches instead of 36. It was a tight fit with the curtain panel (40 inches)

You did it all in one night? I'm trying to get the courage to do something similar myself, but then i get tempted to buy one and be done with it. Sigh.

Yep. Shopping for stuff took like 3 hours, because I couldn't decide on a fabric. It took maybe 30m to cut out the corners (DH used a Dremel Trio.) Another hour to put the batting on. About 30m to do the fabric layer, and maybe an hour to do the nail heads. It was easier with two people (flipping it and holding the fabric) but I probably could have done it myself.
I love it! We are wanting to do something similar...I want to do it all tufted in a white leather or fake white leather...That sounds so 80's but I'm going for like a vintage glam sorta look.

Any tips or advice?
In order to do the corners, you have to cut the fabric into strips. The only thing I'd be worried about is the leather ripping after you cut it. I don't know anything about tufting, but the nail heads were super easy. Maybe you can find giant nail heads that give a tufted look?
