I just got back from the States were I enjoyed cottage cheese and am having a craving. I don't remember seeing it here, but I thought I would ask the experts who have been living here a lot longer than I have.
Germany is good. I am not having a good day though!
There was a death in Pedro's family yesterday and I am still trying to figure out flights for my sister's wedding with a stopover in Seattle. I accidentally just booked one of the legs twice nd had to call them to cancel it but now my visa is denied because they probably think someone has run off with my card. This whole day is just uncool!
I realize that's not what you're expecting, but you caught me at a particularly frustrating moment.
1. Sorry to hear about the loss in Pedro's family.
2. Regarding cottage cheese, I still haven't found it. Believe me, I've been searching! One thought would be to look in one of the enormous supermarkets - Hipercor tends to have random international foods. The big Eroskis sometimes surprise me too. I found maple syrup, but no cottage cheese. Have you tried Queso Fresco/Queso de Burgos? It's not the same, but MIGHT help with the craving.

They have it in Germany, so it's not just an American (or Midwest) thing. In German it's literally the same words - cottage cheese but in German (Hüttenkäse for you German speakers). I know that doesn't say anything about whether Spain has it, but at least it has made it over to Europe. :-)

Corte Ingles in Madrid has it. Or at least it did. In Lisbon I get it in a German import store--so if you have those...apparently Germans like cottage cheese?
I looked at Alcampo again tonight and no luck. There is a Mercadonna down the street so I will try them tomorrow. I bought some ricotta today that looked like cottage cheese in the picture...we will see tomorrow.
We do have a large El Corte Ingles here in Barcelona, I will have to try them if Mercadonna doesn't have it.
I am from Wisconsin where there are lots of German immigrants (including my ancestors)...maybe that is why we like our cottage cheese in WI.
