Mia is on her third ear infection in about two months. When we went in last Tuesday Dr said we may need to talk about ENT referrals at her six month check up. Dr prescribed her Omnicef(she had previously taken Amoxicillin and Augmentin) for her "raging" ear infection. She had been acting like her normal, happy self so Dr(and daycare) were surprised how bad it was.
Monday morning 3 am, she wakes up crying. She is pretty much inconsolable for more than 10-15 minutes at a time. H & I took turns walking her around, holding her, rocking her. I called at 8 and took her to Dr, ears are still horrible. Dr said this visit has pretty much guaranteed a referral to an ENT once they get the infection under control. Options yesterday were: pretty new antibiotic, really old antibiotic or antibiotic shots. Dr opted for the new one, Suprax. We have to take her back Thursday so they can check her out again. If they are still bad then it's either the old antibiotic(Bactrim) or Rocephin shots. The shots are two a day for three days in a row.
I'm glad she is six months now and can take Motrin, that seems to help her. Yesterday was ROUGH, I felt so bad for her. I'm glad she is mostly back to her normal self today, other than being a little whiny, which she is entitled to, and waking up at 4.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Also, any ENT recommendations?
No experience with ear infections, but I would suggest that you make sure your referral is for a pediatric ENT. I made that mistake which resulted in a wasted visit & a wasted copay.
But def see a pediatric one. Also, if they recommend tubes, don't be scared. After 3+ months and numerous meds, it may be an option they want to pursue so that she does not end up with speech delays because of long term fluid.
I don't have experience with ear infections, but we had to take our newborn to the ENT for his tongue tie. We were referred by both the hospital and our pedi to ENT Associates. We visited their office on Linebaugh Avenue and saw Dr. Muller. They do pediatric ENT. Their website is www.entflorida.com. Although we only had one visit and it was fairly quick, I was very satisfied with all the office staff from the time I called to make the appt, then our actual appt, and then a follow up call from the office to see how Ethan was doing two days later. Definitely check them out!
She STTN last night and is back to finishing her bottles, so I know she's feeling a little better. Her follow up was today and her ears don't look worse, which is good. So she is staying on the Suprax for the full 10 days and they gave me a referral to All Children's Group, Pediatric ENT. She has an appt next Tuesday with Dr. Cressman. We shall see what they say.
I'm so glad she STTN and is feeling a little better. All Children's is great! My niece had her kidney surgery there. It was as good of an experience as it could have been. Sending love. She's such a smiley sweetheart, even when she isn't feeling well.
