I just graduated from Ye Ole Community College with an AAS in IT. I've been working in that field for years, but had come to the point where my complete lack of formal education was becoming a real hindrance.
Now a local private liberal arts single-sex university is recruiting the ever-loving crap out of me. My GPA is high. Ye Ole Community College has a good reputation for what it is. I was the only woman who graduated from the program this year.
This school doesn't even have an BIT/CS department though. Large merit scholarships have been mentioned. Repeatedly. I'm flattered / not considering it / confused.
Are schools that hard-up for members of the old lady demographic? Do people kill themselves learning programming languages and then go finish a BA in Communications? The school is not particularly selective, but they aren't hurting for applicants either.
because you're awesome? haha, i have no idea, but good for you! why aren't you considering taking it?
Haha! I'll go with that answer.
The current plan is to finish a BS in Information Science and Systems at the local state school a couple of years from now. The community college program was designed to transfer into that program really well and overall it's a great fit. I don't even know what I'd do at a liberal arts school.
I find that sometimes, thsoe private schools really want to 'diversify' their campuses. Not by adding menz, but buy adding people who have different ages/majors/interests/etc.
So, you stand outa nd rawk seems to be a good answer
A form of affirmative action, really. If they seem more diverse to the government, other schools, prospective employers, they get more monies and prestige. Basically, a form of what gbck said.
And good for you - I'd take advantage of it, if you want to.
