H and I are hosting my fam for the holidays. I'm so not a decorator, but my mom and sister are. I'd like to lively up the house a bit besides the standard tree and front door wreaths - things to put on the mantel, stockings holders, hell, stockings, etc.
Where can I get this stuff without breaking the bank?
I'll be interested to hear the answers. I feel like now that I have a kid it would be nice to be more festive. I got some Halloween stuff at Ross but nothing great.
I like Michael's and Joanns - and they have 40% or 50% coupons ALL the time (Michael's has an app, you can get the coupons right on your phone).
Last year I used a lot of cylindrical glass vases I already had and filled some with glass ornaments - others I filled with white candles and cranberries. I also tend to use a lot of white lights.
The other day I was in the Dollar Tree and I saw they had some glittery snowflakes - because the snowflake looks delicate I'm thinking I might pick up some of those, and include them somehow.
I've been scoping pinterest for some new decorating ideas that aren't all that pricey.

KIRKLANDS!!! I bought the cutest stuff there the other day. It was 25% off Christmas Decor and they had coupons for an additional 20% off. I bought a bunch of those fake light up presents, that look like they belong in Whoville.
I know this doesn't help you now... but, on a side note, we always stock up the day after Christmas. We bought enough icicle lights for our whole house one year for like $15 & I paid $18 for my fake Christmas tree. lol

I like the glass cylindrical vase ideas because they can be used for all seasons and filled with things.
The thing with coupons is I never have them with me.
I much prefer online shopping honestly. And now with a baby, forget about going to the store.

I'm all about decorating with the cylinders and other shaped glass containers. Right now I have twine/wood balls in them, around Easter I have jelly benas or paper mache eggs, spring - lemons, 4th of july red, white and blue dried beans.

Joann's and Michael's both have apps that provide you with coupons.
Hobby Lobby is great (as pp mentioned), but it is all the way in New Port Richey. However they have now also opened an Old Time Pottery up there and they are great too. Huge store with a lot of selection and great prices. There is an Old Time Pottery in Brandon too.
Another place I love is Val's Basket Warehouse on Gunn Highway near Dale Mabry. Great place with great prices.
I would definitely check out any and all of the above for holiday decorations at great prices!

How funny, as soon as I reopened this post I remembered Val's, and then you said it. That was one of the first places my sister took me when I lived here with her in 95.
I was at Val's on Sunday and they had some really nice things. I love mercury glass, and they had some beautiful mercury glass containers in silver, gold, light green, and red in different sizes and all were under $5.00 each I believe. My mom bought a few gold ones in different sizes to put candles in and I thnk she got some branches too. They had tons of great stuff.

I agree with Old Time Pottery. It's super cheap, including the quality so if you don't want to keep it for next year its not putting a huge dent in the wallet.
Just went to old tyme pottery. That's the hot spot for everything!
Was that your first time there? I just love it as they have such a big selection. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I don't live near there or I would be in serious trouble. When it comes to house or holiday decorations, I don't like to spend a lot of money as my tastes change or if something gets broken I don't want to have spent a lot on it. I only make it to that store a few times a year.

I just went to Val's! I spent $60 and got a ton of Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas stuff. I'm still on the search for a Christmas shower curtain. Too much?
