Overall, I like the series. I'm reading the second one now. The first one was a freebie on Kindle. The second and third one are wicked cheap.
The storyline is good. It's about the last wizard, he doesn't know he's a wizard and then he figures it out and has to fight the bad guys while learning to be a good wizard (reminds me a little bit of another series). I think this is YA but I'm not sure and I can't find anything to back up my theory. Definitely fantasy.
The writing style - even though it's set historically, the language is modern and sometimes feels unnatural. Also, the editing is rough. The author, Michael G. Manning, is definitely getting better in the second book. Reviews of the third book give me hope that he finally hit his stride or got a different editor.
If you like fantasy, I would recommend this as an entertaining and lighter read.
