So, they're all nervous about budgets so they laid off 3 people yesterday. My old team is so dead that they decided to get rid of one of the people (they could stand to get rid of 2 more).
So then we find out that they're firing one person, and replacing her with a person who used to be on the team. Apparently her new team doesn't have any work for her and were just going to lay her off. But because my boss likes this girl, she's essentially firing someone so someone else doesn't lose her job.
Then I find out that they're giving the girl moving back to the team these special considerations. She's getting a special work schedule and is all giddy telling me because "it'll really help with my commute". Um... Every single person on that team has a commute. But the phones are on from 9-6, so that's when they're expected to be there.
I'm so grossed out. Why are you REPLACING a person if you have budget concerns (especially because I'm 99% sure the replacement makes more money than the person they're getting rid of)?! And it's so gross to basically get rid of one person because you want to secure a position for someone else!
I'm glad I'm no longer on this team... But I still have the same boss.
Oh, and this girl just to me that she plans on leaving after her maternity leave anyway. So this other woman is losing her job for NOTHING! And the replacement is completely ungrateful that they bent over backwards to secure a job for her.
imoan, you are right to be uncomfortable with this. What they're doing to secure a job for someone is frankly unethical. You don't claim budget cuts and then bring someone else in at a higher salary. If I was the woman getting let go, I might consider HR.
The "replacement" sounds like a really ungrateful byotch!! When is her maternity leave?
She is 8 weeks now (this the chick that gained 8 lbs by her 4th week and has had EVERY pregnancy symptom since 3 months before she even got pregnant). So it'll be probably around a month after I go on maternity leave. So around June/July of next year. And she'll get about 8 weeks.
Nope, she shared that with me confidentially last night. You know, while she was telling me about her new super special schedule and how she was bummed she isn't allowed to work from home (it's a fucking call center- there's no "working from home") and about how this is SUCH a step down for her.
Keep in mind, not only does she have a kid on the way.. she and her H (who works FOR my H and does NOOOOOT make very much) just bought a house. Yet making the same amount of money just on a team she used to work for is sooooo not good enough. Kid on the way, brand new mortgage... you better believe I'd be all bowing and saying "THANK YOU SO MUCH" when they told me they essentially fired someone else so I didn't have to live on the fucking streets with my newborn.
