It was super warm here today, so we headed to the park with my sister in law and her kids. We get to the park and Cameron (who's almost 4) runs ahead with his cousin, who's 7, to a large teeter-totter that's spring loaded, and they both sat down on each side.
When I got into the park to where he was, I could see that he was stuck- his body was slumped over the bar that's meant to hold onto with your hands. I could hear him panicking, not crying so much, so I wasn't in sprint mode really, because I was still holding on to DD. I get closer and he's not saying much, so I let go of DD and run toward him, pick him up, and the LOOK on his face. You guys, his face was frozen in a panic, lips were becoming purple, and he wasn't saying anything. I am hyperventilating at this point asking anyone to help me. And then, he passed out. He was a lifeless, breathless, heavy boy in my arms. At this point I'm bawling and can't even speak, I was just shocked and didn't know what to do. A nice lady started to call 911, but aft about 10 seconds, he woke up and started breathing again. He was a little disoriented for awhile, but he's OK. Scariest day of my life, no question. A life without him definitely crossed my mind in that short time. I didn't see how this happened at all, but gather from my nephew that he got bounced up too high, and his stomach/chest landed eally hard on the bar that he was folded over when I found him. I still am really shaken up over it. So, so scary.
OMG; how scary. I am sorry. Did you have to take him to the Dr? I am glad he is ok.
I have two little ones myself and I would die if something happened to one of them.
No, I didn't. He bounced back fairly quickly, and after lunch he was totally himself, thank goodness. Had he hit his head- like a concussion or something, I would have taken him in.
I am just shaking after reading that! I know the panic and how 10 seconds can feel like a lifetime. I am Sooooo glad it was ok and he's back to his normal self.

I'm a lurker but I felt compelled to respond to you... First off, I'm glad to hear he's doing well - that is scary. I wanted to comment from a medical perspective (finishing med school)... I would urge you to call your doctor or urgent care since kids can easily rupture their spleen when they have an injury like that to their chest/stomach. It doesn't always have to be super painful after. I don't want to scare you but just to make you aware! Again, glad he's doing well now!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I didn't even think of this- would there be any signs if he ruptured his spleen? He hasnt complained of any pain at all. He seems completely fine and hasn't shown any change in appetite or well being. He turns 4 in a few weeks, and will have an appointment then. I'll definitely mention it to his pedi.

That sounds absolutely terrifying. I'm glad he's doing so well now! I would probably call my pedi and just tell him/her what happened, and ask if they need to see him. (And I'm not the type to call over much, but better safe than sorry.)
