So we have had the same horrific tabe and chairs in our kitchen since DH and I moved in with each other 12 years ago. At that time, I was going for the whole Rachel/Monica kitchen on "Friends" and had different colored, BRIGHTLY painted chairs and a boring old circle table with an insert. They have seen their day and we are desperately in need of ditching them. The problem is we can't decide what to get next.
We both want something that is a nice, but kid friendly, and DH feels that the chairs need to have wheels. I am not really on board with the wheels idea, it makes me feel like I am back at my parent's house from the 70's.
Anyone have a kitchen table that they adore, is kid friendly, and durable. Color is kind of a toss up right now, as we are hoping to redo our kitchen and still don'tknow what the end result will be. If you have wheels on your chairs, please tell me your thoughts as well! Bonus points if anyone has a link or photo!
As a mom of three (6, 3, and 7 months) I would definitely not want wheels. Kids tend to play around in their chairs and chairs with wheels will roll around with them. It would only be a matter of time before one of my kids got hurt because they were wiggling, like kids do, and the chair rolled out from under them. Plus, I can honestly say I don't think I have ever seen a chair with wheels that didn't look like it belonged in the 70's or in an office. My table has help up well for the 5 years I have had it but it was from Ashley Furniture and they don't make it any more. Have you considered ikea? They have some good basic tables. The solid wood ones seem to be pretty sturdy and they aren't too expensive. This money factor is great because if something does happen to it you aren't losing thousands of dollars.
I was just going to suggest the WM Sourav too. I adore ours and it is solid hardwood, so no wear or scratches from kids, and the bench rocks for kids. I got ours on craigslist for $200 for 4 chairs, a bench and table after posting an ISO ad.
