I have never bought a rug in my life, but now I need a whole house of them. A lot that I like are indoor/outdoor, are they scratchy? I don't want anything too scratchy and cheap (baby) but I don't want anything too expensive (again, the baby).
Most IO rugs are pretty soft. My thing is that the readily available/affordable ones are pretty online but don't look so hot IRL. You can tell they're IO rugs. The better IO rugs look good, but by the time you're spending that much, you can get a real rug, ya know?
They're decent. I had 2 in my house. One was scratchy but it was seagrass..so Duh! on that.
The other is a poly weave thing. It's in my playroom and it's by no means plush but Rubes crawls on it all the time and doesn't care. It doesn't bother my feet either.
Like THR says, you get what you pay for, and I refuse to pay a lot for rugs, so I deal. It's not high end but it's not bad.

We only have indoor and they are not scratchy at all. They wash/clean up better and are more durable. We will only buy outdoor rugs. And the are cheaper! My best ones are from home decorators

See, TH, that's what I'm afraid of. I need it to look nice enough so we can save money for nice rugs (and, you know, get the kid past the "I'm going to write on everything" stage the other went through), but I don't want to go broke. A lot of the ones I've liked on Overstock are IO rugs.
Other than Lowe's and Overstock, where else can I look for "good" rugs that aren't expensive? I love Overstock for the cheap shipping lol.
I love IO rugs for the durability. Ours are from Overstock and are a very flat non-plushy weave, but I don't find it to be harsh. They probably do look like cheaper rugs, but its not an issue for me.
I got a few IO rugs for our kitchen/side entry about 6 months ago at Dash & Albert. Love them! They're machine washable which was a requirement for me (It says not to machine wash, but I wash them on delicate and then air dry them and I haven't had any problems). I was specifically looking for IO rugs because this is our main entry and DH is always tracking mud, dirt, rain, snow, etc in. They aren't soft and plush, but also not scratchy or uncomfortable to walk on with bare feet.
I bought a big Joss and Main patterned rug for my dining room. It ended up not being the exact measurements it was supposed to be, but of course I couldn't return. I ended up putting the rug in the basement and I LOVE it down there. It's a casual room and its a casual rug. It's not soft and cushy but its not scratchy either.
