I just signed up for my very first marathon. I wanted to do the one in Richmond but decided to just stick to my local area seeing as I have no idea how I will be feeling and don't want to have to travel if i feel absolutely miserable. i am excited and a bit surprised at myself for going ahead and pushing the purchase button. Here's to a long, sweaty summer.
Congrats on taking the first (IMO, most intimidating) step and registering! Enjoy your training. What plan are you following? I recommend reading Hal Higdon's "Marathon" book along the way. Great advice for just about every aspect involved in tackling 26.2 miles.

Which race are you doing (if you don't mind sharing)? I'm also in NC. I'm always interested to hear about what races people here choose. Best of luck with training! It will be a sweaty summer, for sure!

Thank you guys!
GRK-I am going to follow the hal higdon training plan. i have the 16 week and 18 week printed out and will probably do some sort of hybrid. I just finished my second half marathon about a month ago and am trying to maintain 8-10 mile long runs on the weekend until the official training starts in July. Thank you for the book rec. i will have to check that one out.
Rory- i signed up for the City of Oaks in Raleigh. I ran the Run Raleigh Half last month and the course was great. City of Oaks route is similar and this year the course is flatter than it has been in previous years.
