I went to Michael's today and picked up a couple of more things. The pickings were really slim; everything was CHRISTMAS!!!11!1!! What do you think? That's a beaded turkey over on the left. It's more obvious in person. Fake flowers stupid? I like them, but that's probably because I picked them out ;D The candles are purely decorative and will never be lit (I cheaped out and bought crappy petro ones because I wanted fall colors and I wasn't going to spring for beeswax for this). So no danger of catching the flowers on fire or melting them.
Do you have any suggestions for making it more fall-y or is this the right amount of fall for a mantel.
Thanks! I am going to repurpose the lanterns for Christmas with some burgundy/gold candles and maybe some holly branches instead of fake flowers. I could probably come up with something springy-for them in April or so. Maybe flowers in the lanters instead of candles. I've decided that I'm going to do more seasonal decorating so everything's not the same all the time.
Thanks emo. The photos are year-round. They are of our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents; they are always a conversation piece. The lanterns are just old light fixtures from a salvage yard that I ripped the guts out of (idea courtesy of pinterest via peach). We light the fireplace maybe twice a year, but decorating the mantel is fun. I hope you PIP some; I'm always looking for ideas to steal, haha.
