I lurk here more then any other board, and since this board gets more traffic then the travel board I figured I would ask here too.
We are going to visit family in Detroit this summer, and I want to stop in NYC on the way back to visit my SIL.
My husband thinks I am crazy, he has been to NYC several times, I have never been. We would be driving our car, so we would have the stroller, car seat, ect with us so that we could walk and not have to carry all the spare things.
Am I completely off base thinking it won't be that bad?
Can you recommend any hotels that I won't need a small loan to afford for a few days? My sister lives in Astoria, so I am assuming we should be kinda close.
I'm not sure what part about it your husband is concerned about, but we've never had big issues with having kids here (we've lived in NYC since they were born). Umbrella strollers are definitely the easiest to lug up and down subway stairs if you have one of them. As far as hotels, if you are coming mainly to see your sister, I would ask your sister for recs- while Astoria isn't insanely far from Manhattan, it is a good subway ride away. If you are looking mainly to come sight-see, look for hotels more in Manhattan on the East Side (those subways make it the easiest to get to Queens). You'll be able to get to most places in the city easily by subway.
