Before we demo'd the family room I had the carpet steam cleaned. Of course I got impatient and rolled it up before it was 100% dry... then it sat in our basement for 5 months. Now it smells like feet.
I know Febreeze really just makes the room smell better for a little while. Does anyone have any suggestions for de stinking it (other than having the carpet cleaner back)?
It's probably full of mild and mildew. Ick. Unless it was really expensive I'd toss it.
that's kind of what I was worried about.
When I say 'basement' I don't mean dark dank hole in the ground. Our basement is partially finished and very dry. So the only mold/mildew would be from it being slightly damp when it was rolled up.
It will be tossed eventually - the only reason we're using it now is because we're turning that room into a 'treadmill/storage room'. When we have a lot of money saved, we'll turn it into a guest room (with a new floor).

Honestly, if you're just putting it down over concrete or whatever to host a treadmill, I'd go to HD and buy those click-together foam mats (they come in preschool colors or black) to put down under the treadmill and just store things on the concrete.
I know it wasn't a gross basement. It was because you rolled it wet and it stayed wet for too long. The smell is bacteria - mild or otherwise. I'd toss it
I would toss, I think. Too risky for me since I know I'm sensitive to mold, but still it can't be good for anyone. If it were summer and you could put it out in intense sun you could give it a shot, but personally I would toss.
