I'm looking at Pabco brand shingles because they are the only makers I can find of a diamond shaped shingle, which I have decided I need. There's a house near my train station with the diamond pattern, and it's gorgeous. The roofer we picked doesn't usually use that brand, he uses GAF I think, but seemed willing to go with them if it's what we want. Another roofer DH talked to today made a face and said it's a terrible brand, really thin. The only thing I saw online when I was looking was that they have 30 and 40-year shingles, which are about the same, and a 50-year, which is much thicker. Any thoughts on or experiences with the Pabco brand? Or do you know of any other brands that sell a diamond pattern?
DH's conclusion after about two hours on Consumer Reports ratings/user comments is that GAF isn't as awesome as all the roofers seem to be claiming CR doesn't recommend any of the GAFs they tested. But who knows? I hate these sorts of decisions.

Oh no!!!! I hope my roof is decent!! I never even thought to look at CR. ugh.

I'm sure it's fine. It's not like you get a lot of hail and tornadoes down there, haha. I'm sure the GAFs can handle the gentle ocean breezes. Both roofers we talked to use GAF almost exclusively, so there must be more to the story than what's on CR. I just want my diamond pattern, dammit, and GAF doesn't make it; otherwise I'd go with their recommendation no doubt.
