So when you know you're ovulating, how much sex do you have? A previous post made it sound like a chore to have that much sex... Is it like multiple times a day? Or just a few days in a row?
We're normally twice a week, if I can get up the energy, kind of people. The 18 month old does not help in the getting up the energy or the finding the time department (have to wait until he's in bed or napping).
From what I've read, if DH is normal and healthy, more is better. I think last month we went too hard too early and not enough later on. This month, I am fairly sure the timing was right, and the frequency was definitely there.

We try for every day that I have wet or ewcm. That can sometimes last a week. What usually ends up happening for us is two days sex, one day off, two days sex, one day off, and then I hope that I've O'd by then and we can recover. But if not, we keep on going.

Depending on weekend or weekday (as in how late can we go to bed/get up) we'll have sex every 24 to 36 hours during the fertile period (5 days before and day of O). Doesn't sound like that much, but as soon as you start having to time it and it goes from 'yay, let's have sex' to 'we have to now 'cause it's the right day', it really does become a chore, for both partners.
This, btw, is also why I don't tell DH exactly when my fertile week is. That way at least the first time, sometimes the first two time, it's still just fun sex for him. After that he obviously realizes the pattern and we try to make it as much fun as possible, but often enough (at least for me) it's more a matter of getting it done than having fun.
I don't really think a normal dude is ever "shooting blanks".
I also don't think the once extra we had sex is any guarantee, but I refuse to think of it as wasted effort. If nothing else DH can restart the clock on "years since we had sex twice in one day".

We tried for once a day but sometimes we just weren't in the mood. OP, TTC sex gets old after a while whether you do it every day, several times a day, every other day, whatever. It's the fact that you HAVE to do it and it feels obligatory, not spur of the moment.
Ditto the others.... Every day for a healthy couple is good. Every other day is recommended if you have low sperm count.
We try to have sex daily for 4 or 5 days before ovulation and at least day day after. it rarely happens exactly that way, but that's our goal.
OP - many people are lucky and get pregnant immediately, or within a couple of months of trying. It's easy to have sex all willy-nilly within the first few months. After a while though, you start to get that OMG feeling of what might be wrong, and pull out all the stops. Having sex when I'm not 100% in the mood is by far the least crazy thing I've done to try to help our odds.

My H always knows when its FW time. He knows it is soon after my period ends, and he asks what my OPK's look like! I try to keep it to myself but he always knows. Doesn't seem to bother him though, thankfully.
For the days I got positive OPK's We did it twice. AM/PM. But the days surrounding those days where once a day. Then we both got really sick from a stomach bug the day that my temp spiked. So we took a break. TMI I am sure!

My obgyn said to do it the two days before O, the day of, and two days after = 5 days. So far, we haven't been that active lol...this month we will be trying harder
Thanks for the info, everyone! This is my first cycle trying, so I'd like to start off everything right.
Another question- do you take your temperature at the same time every day?
I aim to take my temp at the same time every morning: 5:30. However, sometimes it's off by a half hour or so. Like, if I wake up at 5 and seriously have to pee, I'll take my temp right then before I get out of bed to walk to the bathroom. Thirty or so minutes doesn't seem to effect my temps much, as long as I've gotten at least three hours of sleep prior.
If something happens like my kid waking up at 4 am screaming and I'm out of bed taking care of it, I just won't take my temp that day. A skipped temp here and there won't jack things up too much, because in the end you're looking for an overall pattern which you can still see with a couple missing temps.
Every other from CD10 - CD25ish. We try every day at "peak" time based on OPK/EWCM. It's not that it's a chore (for us at least) to do it so often, but it's a chore to feel like we NEED to do it, and do it now. We are normally 1-2 times a week kind of folks.
ETA: Especially after we've been playing this game for well over a year.

This is my temping style as well, minus the kiddo interruption at 4am
This last month when we got pregnant, we had sex 4 days in a row during my fw. That was the first month we actually did that. It was every other day before that.

I try to temp at the same time every day. Once in a while when I have to get up super early, I'll temp earlier, but even on weekends I set my alarm to temp. I'm really good at falling back asleep after my alarm (it's lead me to be late at school, work or other events many a time!), so it's no big deal to wake up to temp. My temp shift isn't usually very large, small enough that an hour later or earlier could possibly hide the spike, so I'm a bit anal about it.
