Last minute travel plans with a toddler = panic and HAs. We've never been to Maui and we'd like to go with our 17 month old. It will be for 7 nights starting next week (19th or 20th).
Questions: Crazy to have toddler on lap for 6 hours (flying from Seattle)?
Will it be gloomy since it's rainy season? Because it's gloomy here and I am looking for some sunshine!

Lol, gloomy season in Hawaii. Does not exist! Yes, it's rainier than summer, but most of the resort areas are in the dry sections of the islands.
I was on Maui a few days ago, and we had a couple clouds I think. We didn't go to Hana this trip, but that side of the isle is where you'll most likely see rain. Still, for someone from Seattle, you'll think it's sunshine. Even i it does rain here, half the time the sun is still shining. I was on Maui for the same weekend last year, and we did get a little drizzle, but that was it. I think you'll be happy with the sun.
ETA, I just looked out the window, and it was sunshowering. It only lasted about 3 minutes, though.
We buy a seat for our toddler. The only way I would have considered flying with him on our lap for the flight to Hawaii was if we scored those two single seats on the sides. If there are three side seats or you can only get a middle seat, I'd get your 17 month old a seat. It's worth the money for the sanity IMO.
It will likely rain a bit each day, but that can happen any time of the year. There's still plenty to do.
We took our son to Maui twice--once when he was 4 months and once when he was 20 months. The second time was perfect. The only trouble we had was with the time change but he adapted much quicker this last trip than he did when he was 4 months old.
He really liked listening to the live music, so we went to Hula Grill, Leilanis and Dukes for happy hour so we could get some drinks and apps and he could be entertained. He also liked the aquarium and enjoyed walking the pier in Lahaina.
We were in Maui 3 years ago at the end of November and the weather was absolutely perfect. It may rain a little, but it cleared off pretty fast. Nothing to worry about.
