Our new mirror was just delivered, and there is a huge rust (?) stain from what I can guess.
Does anyone have any idea how to get this out? Is it impossible?
The mirror is ove 6' tall and too heavy for me to move. I don't know if taking it back is an option. We had to pay $20 to have it delivered, so I'm guessing returning it would be another $20 (since it's a separate service?). The mirror itself was only $70.
I am guessing we are stuck with this one, because I hand-picked it out yesterday and obviously missed the stain (I have no idea how). This was the only one they had in the store, and I don't think rust appears over night, so this is totally my fault.
So what would you do? I have a vinegar rag sitting on it right now. Is there something I can buy off amazon? Am I totally out of luck? Should I stand it so the stain is on the bottom and then stick a basket in front of it? If so any ideas for decorations/what you would do? A stool?
Try calling the store. You'd think that you would have noticed something that big.
The vinegar should work. If it doesn't, you might try some CLR cleaner stuff. I don't know if that would damage the mirror, but it should work.
when you look at it straight on, the stain is barely noticeable. but when you are at any angle whatsoever, it looks very dark. this + dim lighting = I kind of get it. but still. I'm pretty embarrassed. I have not told SO yet, lol.
Actually if the vinegar doesn't work, try putting Coke on it. That worked on a glass vase that I found that had rust stains on it. Glass and mirrors are the same surface.
thanks for the help! the vinegar didn't seem to be doing anything (yet) so I switched to coke zero. we don't have real coke. I'll soak it overnight and get some liquid rust remover if it doesn't work.
