I'm not sure I want to bank it - for cost reasons as well as considering the likelihood of "needing" it - but at the same time if could help someone I'd hate to just have it discarded. Has anyone researched registries that accept donations?
We donated with last pregnancy. It worked great and it was free to us. By donating, the blood was likely/hopefully used by someone and we are then able to use the bank in the event we would ever need it. We will do it again this time. I will look up the agency we used and post a link. It's my impression that donation is usually free, it's the private storage that is expensive.

We did not bank and weren't able to donate either (baby was born on Sunday AM no FedEx shipping).
Here is a list of participating donor banking hospitals, but even if your hospital isn't listed, donor banking can still be an option. They can collect and ship just like they would for a private bank but send to a donor bank. I contacted two in my state and received a box, shipping labels, cooler.

The woman who is teaching my childbirth class mentioned there are banks that accept the donations for free, but she wouldn't give up any names. I'm guessing because she doesn't want to be perceived as making recommendations on behalf of the hospital.
