I posted the other day about daycare sending DS home because he had three "loose stools" in a day. Well, the pedi said not to worry if it wasn't more than 15 so he is back in daycare. However, he is still having multiple BMs a day (like every diaper change, but NOT over night). They are very small but bright green and tonight his little bum was all red
We washed him well with warm water, then dried and put aquaphor on it, but I am not sure it will help and I feel bad. Is there something else I should be doing? How do I know when to use a diaper cream? We cloth diaper so are there any CD friendly creams? We use a fleece or rice paper liner when applying the aquaphor.
I also decided that these poops seem to be connected to the fact that I have been on an oatmeal kick. Maybe he can't handle oatmeal? I just feel bad for him (even though he doesn't seem to care). Prior to this he pooped once every day or every other day, so this is unusual for him.

some bare booty time is great for rashes... and Triple paste works wonders. I never CD's so don't know about that- but I'd do whatever needed to be able to use triplepaste with a bad diaper rash.
our daycare was very lax on the "2 diarrhea diapers in a day = go home" for babies... b/c many of them have runny poops often. They'd only send a child home if it was REALLY wet - like liquid, and the child seemed off.... otherwise- new foods, teething, etc - all can = more runny poop than normal. Unless you really think it's a stomach bug - there is no reason to keep a baby with runny poops home from daycare.... unless, again, it's like liquid and child is not feeling well.

Yeah, they are fine with keeping him there now (since it doesn't appear to be a bug). I guess I am just concerned that it is a sudden change from his normal routine and that it seems to be irritating him.
DD has been pooping like 5 times a day for the last couple weeks and it's generally green. It never really occurred to be concerned- she's been congested and she's teething. DCP puts diaper rash cream on her with every change (not my request), so we have no issues with rash.
We CD and use CJ's BUTTer at DC and Grandma El's at home. I think you can also use Burt's Bees, which you can probably find at Target. There are lots of CD safe creams.

There must be something in the water.....er milk. My little guy is pooping a ton and his poos are green too. I am pretty sure it's teething but tonight they were almost mucous-y looking.
Oh and Burts Bees isn't CD safe but California Baby is. That is what we use and it's widely available.
I think it's good that you're looking at the oatmeal: if you're serving considerably more/more often than previously, that certainly could be the culprit.
Not to throw a red herring into the conversation, but there's no chance that he's teething, is there? The only reason I throw that out there is that for both of my kids, one of their teething symptoms was lots of poo, and poo that practically stripped the skin raw: there's nothing else like it. Almost like it was especially acidic or something.
Either way (and more relevant to your post!) we usually use California Baby with our CDs b/c they're CD safe, but when they were teething, I'd use a liner and slather on some Burt's Bees b/c the CB wasn't our favorite when they were really irritated.

Thanks ladies! I don't know if he is teething. He hates when I look in his mouth (always have) but I can't feel anything. A friend mentioned his gums looking a little swollen, but I don't know if they were really any different than normal. It sounds (from all your experiences) that teething may be the culprit though.

Ok sorry another question about CD diaper safe diaper creams. If I use CA baby will I have to strip the diapers or can I really just use it and wash them like normal?
If you use the cream sparingly (just enough to coat the butt a bit), you'll probably be fine. I've used cream here and there on sore spots without any issues. For redness, I just use coconut oil which has washed out fine.
If you do have problems, a wash with Dawn will probably fix it as long as you don't use something with fish oil. That stuff is really hard to get out.
In my experience, the CD safe diaper rash creams I tried did absolutely nothing (we tried method and CA baby). So we used Triple Paste, which really is the best. I used a liner, but it still got on the diapers, esp overnight. Dawn works well to get it out, but you have to go through the horrible process of stripping.
For basic redness (not a rash) Coconut oil is the best.
Coconut oil is either in with the other cooking oils or in the natural foods section. It comes in a jar and is solid at room temp. And it smells like coconuts and makes a great moisturizer. If you think you might also cook with it, keep the jar in the kitchen and just put a bit in a container for the change station.
