Meh. Just don't do it in coins. MIL gave us 50 euros in coins for our wedding. Nice idea if we were not living in Zurich. It was freaking impossible to use them for us. I ended up finally finishing it up a year later on our farewell visit to Germany.
I think it would be nice to get the money for the location of their honeymoon. Nice to land and then already have some currency.

I seem to recall another ILer's DH feeling compelled to come up with a creative and humorous delivery of a wedding gift. I want to say it was Crimson&Clover.
Personally, I think it's rather funny. I would make sure that it doesn't require too much additional work to exchange, if that were to be necessary.
We got a bunch of random currency. 3 years later we still have random currency. But if the bride/groom can spend it easily on their honeymoon then it can work.

DH always wants to do something special whereas I'm a gift or money-in-the-card kind of girl.
I think putting alternate currencies that they might use sometime (for their honeymoon destination, pounds if they visit the UK, etc) would be a really funny and creative idea.
