So, DS moved up rooms about a month ago. Should I have gotten thank you gifts for his old teachers, it crossed my mind but I never acted on it. I was thinking of just getting his old and new teachers something for the holidays. Is that acceptable?
I also have no idea what to get this new teacher who is some hippy older lady. Can I just give people cash? Is that rude?

I do not get thank you gifts when my kids move up - kids are constantly transitioning, and they don't need to be thanked just for having done their job, unless they've been truly remarkable (and in that case, I'm more likely to write a letter to the daycare director about how awesome they've been).
At the holidays, I usually default to Target GCs for teachers, they can use it on either themselves, or buy gifts for others there (and so the GC is basically the same as cash in their pocket at that point).

Ditto Vanilla. I've never done thank you gifts when M transitions rooms, he's changed rooms twice with 2-4 teachers per room. We're also giving Target GCs for the holidays.
ETA: I do understand wanting to give a holiday gift to his old teacher, especially if he was in the previous room for a long time or they had close relationship. I think that would be very nice of you. (but certainly not required)
