Did you put socks on first? If yes to socks, any suggestions on the best type of socks? I know some people have strong preferences over "basic" socks, Trumpets, or more fitted socks.
Dd wore these for like a month when she was crawling. I thought they were a waste. They were also hard to get on and there were cuter options (see Kai run pre walkers) if you really need soft soled shoes.
We liked them. They're a popular gift, though. I think we started around 6 months and still use them sometimes. You really don't have to worry about socks.
Most of the people being invited to my shower are old ladies, so I am not expecting to get some of the more popular items that our generation is using. I think that's one of the reasons I'm picking up some clothes as I see them. I fell in love with the pair of Robeez linked above when sewpink showed me a pic of them or something similar.
My husband's parents are in their 80's. His dad is the youngest of 13, and his mom is the second to the youngest of 6. So aside from a handful of close friends, most people at my shower will be elderly. heh
You ladies rock, thanks. Seeing the one pair that I really LOVE on sale, I couldn't help but buy them. I won't buy any more until I see how they work for us.
I just ordered 2 pair from that shoeszoo site someone posted last week. They are cheap, tons of designs, and I split the shipping cost with a friend that wanted a couple of pair too. I anticipate we'll use them some this winter when out and about to keep her feet warmer. Then when she is crawling and stuff.
for socks, I've been happy with gymboree socks, old navy, and trumpette. The carters ones were bad.

We didn't get Robeez until they were 12 months at the end of August 2011 and the weather was getting cool and they were starting to practice walking and stuff. And, they were big enough that going out barefoot was starting to look weird.
Before that, they just wore trumpettes or went barefoot, especially in the summer when it was hot.
The style you posted is similar to what DS had. They each had one pair and wore them till they started walking at 15 months and grew out of them.

I didn't put shoes on them until it started to get cold and/or until little man starting walking in places that he needed more than socks. They have a couple soft sole leather shoes, a pair of crocs (thanks, grandma) and some wee squeak shoes. I love the squeaky shoes because I can tell where the little man has run off to by the sounds. Very helpful when you have two to keep track of.

DS is 9.5 months and we just started using them but only when we leave the house. I guess it's also coinsiding with the weather change. And ditto whoever said they keep socks on. That's really the only reason we use them now (since he's not walking yet). Socks last about 5 seconds!
10 months to 13.5 months. She wore the ministar from Target everyday to daycare until she was better at walking. She needed shoes at daycare because they went outside everyday and she was cruising.

That was the age we started. She doesnt wear them inside. They are tight on her ankles. But the next size is too big.
Now that she cruises, we put her in socks with grips on the bottom. However, the doctor suggested barefeet for walking is better.
Yup, barefeet walking is better. I think we only used Robeez and similar soft-soled shoes when we were somewhere we didn't have to worry about her stepping on something sharp.
DS started wearing ministars (Target's version of Robeez) when he was 6 months. He's 9 months now. He was CONSTANTLY pulling off and eating his socks, I was tired of losing them everywhere. Every store, my parent's house, etc... I put socks on him b/c his feet are always freezing. I only put shoes on when we leave the house. I think they're sooo cute, I love them!

My kids constantly pulled off socks for the first 6 mos unless they were trumpettes (harder to get off). I think we started putting them in Robeez around 8 or 9 mos, since they were starting to pull up and scoot on furniture. They only really wore them outside of the house. I think we switched over to the real soled ones (Robeez, pediped, and stride rite) around 13 mos.
