I've never really shopped at the Children's Place before, but someone suggested in a post below that I look there for zippered sleepers and footed pants.
They have a 25% off code right now. This is a good price, right? $4.50 for a fleece. This is something I may very well have purchased full price at LL Bean or Land's End. Or even Patagonia... Why is the Children's Place so inexpensive?

Children's Place and Carters are both super super cheap. It is becuase they are just basic cheap clothing.
We have sleepers from there and from Hannah Anderson. The Hannah Anderson ones are by far better quality but they are just pajamas so I don't see why it matters.
Thanks. For myself, I would rather spend more on something that's great quality and will last years. Even if I can afford Patagonia, I should probably snag things like sleepers and even smaller sized fleece jackets when I see them on sale at places like this. It would be stupid to pay full price at Patagonia/LL Bean for a fleece when they will outgrow quickly, right? I need to hear this, lol.
Ditto Karina. I didn't start caring much about quality until things fit DD for more than a month or two at a time. Even then, most of her cheaper outfits (like Children's Place ones) have at least made it through a season even if they aren't in pass-it-along condition.

Ha, well again I am not a good person to talk to as I do buy the stuff at LL bean ha ha. But yes I think your way of thinking is the correct way of thinking. I would probably wait until he is a year to buy him a jacket or fleece frmo one of those stores. That way he can wear it for a bit longer. For example, DS can probably wear his LL bean jacket until he is 2+ (but he is small).
When you go through new clothes every month or so, you dont want to be spending MORE than $5 for a piece of clothing.... even now that DD's settled a bit, I do most of my shopping at Childrens Place, ON, etc, where I spend on average $5-10 for a piece of clothing. Kids clothes get ripped, stained, ruined.
Feel free to spend money on high quality clothes, but don't get upset if something he wears twice then gets stained and you can't use it again for another kid.
I think paying full price for anything kids is stupid, but thats just me.

I don't want to.
Even with Janie & Jack, most of the sale items I have purchased were $7 or less.
I think the quality at Children's Place is fine. Sure there is nicer stuff available, but the cheap stuff works just fine. We have a ton of Children's Place, Old Navy, Carters, etc. clothes that have already made it through two kids and will probably be worn by the third.

Janie and Jack has great sales.
and believe me, DD does has plenty of higher quality clothes, she has J&J, Hannah Anderson, DKNY, etc etc. But most of that stuff is special occasion stuff, or things like jeans or leggings that she will wear a lot and I dont want to wear out. But I also buy a lot of designer stuff at Marshalls, or on sale with coupons.

My kids have had plenty of CP and CP like quality clothes over the years, and given how fast they grow out of them, the quality is just fine for the amount of time they'll be used. And FWIW, most of the stuff we've had were hand me downs, so they lasted through the original kid plus both of my girls.
As much as I love Hanna Andersson and the like (and yes, my girls have a closet full of "Hannassen" dresses, as DD #2 calls them!), I only buy that stuff on sale and it helps that I know it'll get a lot of use since I have two girls. A fleece for $5 is a steal and I'd snap it up if I needed one in the girls' wardrobes!
Funny, I think cp Jammie's are the worst. I just threw two pairs away that dd had worn out even though they still fit. I think Carter's fleece is the only thing (in the on/gap/cp group) that holds up to as many washings as our pjs take.
It's funny you mention jeans. I really like Janie & Jack's jeans. They're thick, yet soft, and have a really stretchable waist. I've bought them on sale as gifts for friends after getting hands on experience with the quality when I nannied. The one item I actually shelled out more than $7 for during a J&J sale last month were a pair of their 18 month jeans for a whopping $10 or $12. I'm keeping tags on larger sized items like this, so if for some reason my kiddo is husky or a string bean and the jeans won't fit, I can Ebay or consign them. (Easier said than done as I need the motivation do to that, lol.)

It's a pretty good price. I've bought some of their fleece hoodies for DD. She wore them a lot and they still look brand new. Some of the cheap fleece things get scratchy after you wash them a couple of times, but the Children's Place ones didn't. I also like their plain long sleeve layering t-shirts and jeans.
I've had a lot of inexpensive brand stuff hold up nicely. I would stay away from the cheap character pjs (Disney, Mickey Mouse, etc.), Garanimals, and Gerber.
I tend to grab fleece year-round. We live in the NE on the coast, so even in the dead of summer if we go for a walk at the beach it can be chilly. I expect we'll want a fleece or similar in their size at all times. My family also lives pretty far north, and it is SO chilly there at night in the summer.
Sooo I bought a few in different sizes.... They look just like the Land's End ones I purhased "on sale" for my nephews a few years ago at $20 a pop!
This post is funny to me because it shows how much of a cheapskate I am when it comes to DS's clothes. Carter's is the "expensive" brand to me. Wal-mart all the way, baby. $3.88, always. Although I send DH because walking through that store gives me a panic attack.
