It seems like there are a billion posts everyday about buying baby clothes. Am I the only one who has hardly bought any clothes for their kid? With my shower, hand-me-downs from a coworker, and excited grandmothers and aunts, I have plenty of clothes for DD. I just fill in the gaps- extra socks, basic onesies, pajamas, etc. Everything I DO buy pretty much comes from TJ Maxx or Target. I am so cheap.
I'm sure it will change as she gets older, but I am just so shocked to see people go crazy buying baby clothes when a MILLION outfits will be gifted to you.
Some people enjoy it. 7 years into it and having had a boy and a girl I am over it and rarely buy them clothes. Still when they were tiny it was soo much fun.
Though my anxiety got to the point that I was stressed that they weren't wearing everything I bought or wearing it enough. Esp now that they dress themselves. So I keep it to more of a minimum.
I've bought about 2 or 3 outfits for my kid. She's 4.5 months old. She's got an entire wardrobe of gifts and a ton of hand me downs that extends to size 3T.
When I do need clothes for DS, I buy a box or giant bag as a lot off CL. He gets some gifts and those help. He has too many clothes - I end up going through his drawers and getting rid of stuff he doesn't wear even though it still fits.
I am lucky and have had some hand-me-downs gifted my way.

I'm super picky so, yes, I buy clothes. I have a long list of stuff I hate on clothes (animal prints, camo, logos, words, graphics, collars, etc, etc) so most hand-me-downs don't work.

I was with you until collars! Some collars adorable! I love when DS wears a polo or button up under a sweater. So cute!

I buy just about all of DS's clothes, but I wouldn't say that I buy a large quantity. My mother and MIL have the same taste and like to buy stuff that is completely NMS--lots of pastels, animals, appliques, "Mommy's Prince"--even though I've told them that I like things that are more classic. I only buy when things are on sale and actually have gotten quite a bit for him on consignment. The only hand me downs I got was a box of stuff from my nephew (now 5) and most of it was so beat up / stained I had to toss it.
We didn't get many baby clothes as gifts or buy a lot before DD was born because we didn't find out the sex. People don't love buying gender neutral baby clothes. So before she was born, I bought the bare mininum of gender neutral clothes in newborn and 0-3 months, but had nothing else. My mom now sends boxes of clothes, but I still need to fill in the gaps and buy practical stuff a lot of the time. And baby clothes are adorable and DH doesn't get mad at me buying it.
I hate clutter and excess "stuff" in my home. But, when it comes to things that are staples in a wardrobe, I like to have duplicates. We tend to only do laundry on weekends as we both work full time, so I will probably have a more fully stocked closet as a working mom than I would as a stay at home mom.
I'm trying to really cover my bases for the first few months before the baby even arrives. I enjoy online shopping and landing a good deal. I hate having to buy something when it's needed, and not having the option of finding a good deal or finding exactly what I had in mind/want.
I don't think I'll go crazy, but we will probably have a ton of solid tops, onesies, and basic bottoms for the first year.

I don't like collars because they look like they would be uncomfortable to nap in, and they get chewed. Ew.

I am too, and I guess I've been super lucky that all my hand me downs have come from people who feel similarly.
Hardly ever buy clothes. I used to buy a lot less when he was younger and people wanted to buy him clothes. Now that he is a little older, we've stopped getting as many hand-me downs and gifts.
95% of what I buy, I buy from consignment sales. I got DS's whole winter wardrobe including a winter coat and a few toys for like $45. ;D
I returned all his birthday present clothes because they were the wrong size, and got at least 4 outfits from the 2 I returned. Sales make gift cards go way further.
I am far more a sucker for diapers than clothes. I just bought him 2 cute Alvas for his Christmas stocking.

Not everyone has a MILLION outfits given to them & some kids grow faster than expected. We were gifted plenty of 0-3mo stuff, he outgrew that pretty quickly...

Thrift stores are amazing too. I got the most beautiful Jacadi wool jumpsuit with matching cardigan for $3. It looks like it was never worn, and I'm guessing it was originally somewhere north of $150.

Aww. DS does not chew his collars He doesn't seem to have any issues napping in them though, they don't tend to be that much higher than his regular shirts.

I've hardly had to buy anything, and DD is in 9mo clothes now. She barely wore everything she was gifted, and I have a box of stuff in larger sizes that my MIL and others keep buying. I'm not picky. She wears the cuter stuff on weekend when I'm home, and she wears the stuff I don't like as much to daycare. There have only been a few things I thought were totally fug, and I didn't have the capacity at the time to figure out where it was from or care enough to return it, so she wore it once, and it's waiting in the tub of outgrown stuff to see if we have #2.

Same here. I return pretty much everything that people buy us. I just don't tell people that. And I turned down hand me downs in the beginning because we didn't need them and now no one has asked us again (but I probably would still say no because I'm so picky).
I love to buy my kid clothes. Its my addiction. I don't shop for myself. I shop for my kid.

I buy a few outfits that I really like in each size. I'm picky about the stuff I buy, but if other people buy her stuff that's NMS but still comfortable, she just wears it to daycare.
I love shopping for her, but I try to reign it in so she doesn't end up with a bunch of stuff that she only wears once before outgrowing. I only shop super sales, consignment sales, or consignment stores for her right now. That might change after she starts staying in the same size for more than 5 minutes, but I just can't justify spending more when she outgrows everything so quickly.

I buy very little for my kids. The occasional outfit for a special occasion, or to fill in a gap in their wardrobe. But we are fortunate enough to get tons of nice hand me downs from my niece and three of our neighbors, so my girls really never *need* anything. I just enjoy doing a little shopping of my own once in a while, and they appreciate an item here and there that hasn't been worn before.

Both kids received the majority of the clothes they wore for the first year of life as gifts. From that point on it has tapered off, unless the grandparents see something cute and send it our way. I'm generally not picky about clothes unless the material appears uncomfortable or if I don't care for the saying on the shirts. DD has received a few shirts that say "future princess" and such in glitter or rhinestones that really just rub me the wrong way. That stuff goes straight to donation.
Most of their clothes is from Carters, gap/old navy, or target. Although I have recently discovered tea collection and love their little dresses.
Yes. It's all on super clearance but I buy a lot. I'm also picky and my main hand me down source has decidedly different taste than me. I buy most of dds clothes.
Since the kids were born, we have mostly been covered with hand-me-downs. I still tend to have to fill in a few things, but I pretty much only shop at ON and CP during sales. They don't fit in one size for too long, so I try and spend as little $ on clothes as I can.
I've bought 1 new outfit for him and it was the "first thing we ever bought for baby". I've picked up a few things at yard sales and consignment shops, but I hate to spend more than $2. I'm fortunate in that we live near a very affluent area and we also live in a town where it's rumored that 30% of the population is 12 and under. I have so many hand me downs through at least 18 months that I don't know what to do with them. We only use a small percentage and that's after we picked out just the things we prefer. Craigslist is big here, but there is also a buy sell trade group on FB that has everything we'd ever need at super cheap prices. I don't see us buying much of anything, especially new, for quite a while.

We were team green, so we didn't get any clothes at our shower. When he was born, we received about 50 boyish outfits in nb and 0-3 mos as gifts. Other than that, I've purchased everything for him. I expected him to be spoiled (first grand kid on both sides), but that's not the case at all. I will admit, I'm pretty jealous of people who say their kid has too many clothes or toys.
I don't like my MIL spending a ton on clothes for my kid. (Personal thing because of my SIL.) So we buy most everything. He doesn't get clothes for gifts any more.
