No, not constipation. I'm trying to go without shampoo, and I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this?
I'm following the guidelines I've found online, "washing" with baking soda and water, rinsing with apple cider vinegar. So far, so good - but I'm only on day two.
If you've tried, any tips for success? Or am I crazy for trying this? Will this all end in tears?
I can't do it. I have fine, borderline oily hair. Instead I use Burt's Bees shampoo b/c it is sulfate free and wash only 2-3 times (rarely 4x) per week.

I have super oily, thick, curly hair and only wash with conditioner. It took a little while to get used to the idea and trust that I did not need shampoo, but now my hair grows super fast, is seldom tangled or frizzy, stays clean and smelling nice with only washing 2-3 x per week, and I think it looks great (and I get compliments frequently).
I tried it for a week or two. My hair felt so freaking gross that I gave up.
I've been using Wen for the last 3-4 months, which is kinda like conditioner-washing. I really like it, but I have to wash my hair more frequently than I do when I use shampoo. It's also crazy expensive, since a 32 oz bottle costs $60 when tax & shipping are factored in, and only lasts about 6 weeks for me. I'm going to try switching to washing with conditioner & see how that goes.
I use dry shampoo (Suave is awesome and $3/bottle) in between washes and my hair has never looked better. In fact, I used it right after my sweaty workout yesterday morning and you would have never know. My hair is thick and wavy and tends to get oily.
Like pp, I use sulfate free shampoo and color care conditioner.
My understanding is that if you're using shampoo, silicones aren't necessarily bad. Silicones coat the hair shaft and if you don't shampoo, won't come off, and cause build-up. As long as you're using shampoo, I wouldn't make too much trouble over finding silicone-free products (which are admittedly difficult to find!)
I think other peoples' arguments over silicone-free is just that they don't like chemicals that close to their scalp? That was mostly on the hippy/crunchy granola sites I read.
Please re-read the thread. Everyone is concerned about sulfates, not silicone. Sulfates are what make shampoo foamy and are super drying.

Silicones were discussed, too. She was clearly responding to CMMF's post suggesting using silicone-free products in conjunction with sulfate-free shampoo.

I totally missed the silicone discussion, oops. Just because English is my first language doesn't mean I know how to read Yes, ditto Carrots on build-up, that's no good either.

I wasn't willing to go w/o shampoo, but I only wash every 4-6 days. I used to do every other & it took a few weeks to train my hair to go that long w/o washing. My hair is thick, coarse, wavy, & dry. It's so much better now that I'm down to 1-2x per week of washing.
I use Moroccan Oil Shampoo & Conditioner, & some cheap hair mask stuff from Target every other wash. It's Neutrogena I think. I use a dry shampoo if I'm going on day 4 & know I can't wash for another day or two.
