Happy Friday! I am guessing most of you 'mericans aren't working today.
It's too bad yesterday was a quiet one because I can only imagine the shitstorm (I hope, at least), if more people were around to post on the UO May 2013 thread yesterday, in particular this post:
"I think the nuclear family gender roles are good. I think it helps define what to do or not do instead of have wishy-washy lines that cause confusion or frustration.
I'm not saying I like chauvinism or want women's rights to go out the window, but I think our society's 'divorce' from these roles have really convoluted what we should or who should do certain things.
I think that there are reasons why women tend to be more maternal and men tend to be more geared toward hunting/gathering/providing.
I'm not saying that everyone FITS in the roles, just that the roles are good guidelines."
Interesting. I definitely don't agree but it annoys me when people flame on UO posts. Of course people are going to disagree - otherwise it wouldn't be an unpopular opinion!
That being said, I think it's totally ludicrous and tend to make a mass generalization that woman who think that way have never had upper level management positions to really see how the glass ceiling still does exists. I've worked for a company that outright said you shouldn't hire women in their late 20s and early 30s bc they have babies and go on maternity leave and then quit. My jaw was on the floor when I heard this.
