Oof, I am tired today. Up on my feet cooking for at least 4 hours yesterday, thankfully my mom and aunt were there to help and shooed me out of the kitchen when it was time to clean up. I was wiped out last night, and took a nice nap this afternoon. I feel better now.
H has almost finished the apartment, he's working on putting the cabinets up in the kitchen now. It should be totally done Sunday, which is awesome because we have a prospective tenant coming to look at it on Monday. Cross your fingers for me!
As for Thanksgiving itself... not the most successful meal I've ever done. I dunno if the oven is too new and the temperature gauge is wonky, but the stupid turkey took 6 HOURS to cook, and it STILL wasn't totally done. Everything else cooked okay though... I guess it was just a really dense bird? It was only 12 pounds! It should have taken maybe three hours. The gravy tasted more like flour water. And my mom made the pie, using a recipe I had, but she rolled the crust out too thin (the way she normally does, with an all-Crisco crust) and it burned. Then we didn't leave the pie in long enough, so it was closer to pudding. However, it tasted amazing, so that's the important part, right?
At least the sweet potato and carrot soup I made turned out fabulous, haha.
I got my hair cut and styled in the morning, then came home and started cooking. It was our first Thanksgiving together, and the first time I have ever hosted (and the first time I have ever made some of these dishes). All in all, it was a resounding success. I didn't even have to use the emergency jar of gravy:-) And we managed to have almost NO leftovers. I even was able to eat the whole meal without feeling sick at the end.
