I'm on my alumni board as a committee chair. For the first time ever, we're doing a holiday party. As the chair, I wanted to get each of my members (12) a little gift...but even a 5$ giftcard would be tough for me to swing. I'm trying to think of the something very little, but thoughtful. 2 of them are guys but the rest are women. Any ideas?

What about a thoughtful card for each, and a lapel pin for your alma mater? You might be able to get these pretty inexpensively given your status as chair if you speak with the development office, etc. In my field, I wear my alma mater's lapel pin or my sorority pin (both are quite small and tasteful) when attending alumni events.
It seems like you want to do something thoughtful as a thank you around the holiday, so I think a nice card/ note is appropriate.

I would just write them a card. I work in philanthropy for a school and I have never heard of the alumni board chair getting holiday gifts for committee members. You should talk to the staff liaison for your committee and see if they can provide school cards for a note (or maybe even a tchotchke with the school logo on it). The gift can then be from you AND the development/alumni office.
