he got 10 pages into the book and turned to me and said "mommy, why were people so stupid as to ever think that the world was made in 7 days"
We've gone from"i'm so bored" to lots of questions i don't really want to answer. the whole point of him reading was so he'd entertain himself while I work.

Your kid is going to get in so much trouble some day. lol
You should take him over to Vandy to point out really smart people who believe that 7 day business. I had never met someone who actually believed it until I got there, and I never got over the shock.

He does the gifted program at Vanderbilt.
His teacher handled it well when he asked why they had to say "one nation under god" if there is no god the first week of school
Darwin had an interesting life. Does the book describe his travels on the Beagle? I always wanted to be an explorer. I think it's great your child is reading this book and asking questions. I wish you had the time to answer them or help him answer them, but if you don't, maybe refer him to online discussions or his other parent/siblings?

Why does this feel like a thinly-veiled dig at working moms?
Oh right, because it's Seesaw The Shit-Stirring Troll.

Because CLEARLY, the OP wanting to tread lightly on a topic that many take seriously means she has no time to answer or help her own child answer a question. Nice leap there.

Maybe you feel that way because you think that way? I do not agree with you and meant nothing of the sort. I'm trying to offer workable solutions for a situation the mother described. I don't even know if there are siblings or another parent for the kid to ask. It was just a suggestion and no intended dig at anyone.
I love it. I hope my kid is that awesome I've heard you're supposed to read to babies a lot, but i find childrens books SO boring (especially, when at 3 weeks old he has no idea what they are about). So instead, I read him TIME magazine every week. I'm hoping this means I will breed a smart one
