I got an Angie's List deal for $400 for four 6'' lights on a dimmer switch. Additional lights are $167 for first floor and $130 for second floor. We are doing 6 in our family room so it will be $734.
Another quote was $125 each for three 5'' lights on the second floor, which is a separate project.

We just had 10 cans installed in out LR and FR and they were about 80 a can, but we had to repair the drywall. It would have been about 30 more a can to have them do the repairs.
We installed them ourselves. They were $17/can, $70/200' of 14-3 wire (for the 12 recessed lights in our basement we only needed a small portion of that though), $10-15/trim, $15 for the low voltage dimmer, and $30 in misc (hangers, standard switches, wire nuts of various sizes, etc).
We DIYed ours, so it was just materials. It will probably depend on whether you have open attic above where the lights are going in, or a second story. It's a lot easier to get to, so probably cheaper, if there's open attic above them.
