If I bought the deal today, it can be returned, right??? Is it a okay deal or a great deal? Would you buy it with or without the special offers.
I'm on the fence, I'm thinking of getting it if it's a great deal and can be returned. H is graduating with Ph.D. and his bday is this month and so is xmas. So plenty of gift giving occassions (though he always has a ton of DVD's, CD's, and books he wants)
He's talked about wanting a kindle OR an IPAD (big difference I know). He's said that his mom may buy him one and I think he'd rather have the IPAD (he's really not sure what he wants but thinking more is better).
I would wait to see if his mom buys him an iPad. It's a pretty good deal, but I personally would want one of the newer Kindles if I could afford it. (Well, I would really want an iPad, but the price difference is big there.)
But, yes, you will be able to return it. Amazon has had good customer service IME.

We bought my zMIL the deal one. With offers, DH said shed be more upset about the extra $25 than the ads 1) she isn't tech inclined, just wanted an e-reader, watch movies, and the ability to check email on vacation (she doesn't do smart phones) 2) she hates people spending money on her, if we can tell her it was on sale it goes over a bit better.
It is returnable, you get the promo price back not the full price (they spelled that out in the fine print, I would never expect to get the regular price back)
If you have separate amazon accounts you can order it as an gift so it isn't personalized to your account. If you have a prime account the actual Kindle device gets lending library access (one boom a month) were the iPad app does not. I just use the real library's ebook access. I rarely use my real Nook anymore unless we go to the beach.
If I were buying it for myself, I'd probably go with the newer one as I believe it now has a camera, I use Skype a lot while traveling,. If I just had the $200 or under price point, I like the Google Nexus 7 better as a $200 tablet.
If your DH wants an iPad you could see if your MIL would go in on it with you if budget is a concern. I'd say it would be more useful for conferences general academia land work than the Kindle. DH would steal mine for his trips, I just ordered him the surface (he liked it over the iPad, he is strange).
