Can anyone recommend some mentally stimulating dog toys?
I crate the dog (2 year old terrier/corgi) while we're at work and I'm concerned she's getting bored. I throw some toys and chew toys in there with her, but she just started pulling the blanket that covers the crate through the bars. She doesn't exhibit any other signs of boredom, but I want to curb it before she does.
I don't have any but a lot of people swear by treat puzzles. There are a lot of different kinds. And the classic Kong with peanut butter is a good time-intensive toy.
My dogs play with each other a bunch but I've never really seen them playing with a toy for hours JUST to play with it. Usually food needs to be involved to keep them interested. The only thing my dogs will do for their own entertainment is destroy things. (but we try to supervise that! )
Our anxious foster liked to unravel rope toys. String everywhere.
Ditto the Kong with PB. My dog destroys EVERY toy you give her. We purchased a super thick Kong ball that has a hole in it. Sometimes I will put a bit of PB in it or I will jam a treat or two in it. Keeps her busy. I know this because if I put the treat in a little too far and she can't get it she will sit in her crate (even once we are home) and try to get the treat out.
Another vote for the Kong. Nylabone makes a bunch of interactive toys, we have this small wobbler that we fill with kibble and our dumb as a doornail (but sweet and lovable) greyhound loves. We also have an orbee tuff globe ball with a hole that I'll fill with kibble or apple chunks for her to roll around. Kong also makes a large wobbler that dispenses treats/kibble when you knock it over.
