Argh. A nice house came on the market which is kind of a miracle given the time of year.
It is in the neighborhood on a nice quiet street with a big yard, but it backs up to a hotel parking lot. A holiday inn of some sort, and it is a big hotel.
I think that is a deal breaker for me. Even though the hotel seems nice and kept up, I worry mostly about noise- people getting in late and slamming car doors, etc. also, hotels are built so cheaply that who knows how nice the hotel will be in ten more years?
What a very beautiful home! I can say with assurance that having a hotel backed up to the house would absolutely be a deal breaker. But, one of our requirements when we bought a new home was that we didn't want anything directly behind us (no houses). I would be concerned with the many people who come and go. I personally would never want to be backed up to a business. The constant strangers eyeing my house wouldn't make me feel safe. Are there big lights that illuminate the area all night? That could be annoying. Just my thoughts.
First of all ... didn't you used to live in MN? I currently live in MN, but am relocating to the Columbus area. We have been house hunting around there since September but haven't found anything we want to buy yet. We found a rental in Dublin for the short term. In any case ... We should talk!
Secondly, although the house looks very nicely updated and seems to be a good value for the area, I think the location would be a deal breaker for me.
I know this isn't exactly the same, but the house we just sold in MN has a road that goes right behind the house. It's not a busy road, like it's not a highway or anything. It just carries neighborhood traffic, and it wasn't a big deal to us. But, it was a HUGE deal to the buyers who looked at our house. I can't tell you how many times we got feedback after showings that the buyers absolutely loved the house and it showed really well, but they were no longer interested because of the road behind the house. Buying a house that backs up to anything non-ideal is a resale concern in my book.
Are you only looking in Worthington, or other locations as well?
That's unfortunate and a definite deal breaker. Have you already looked at the other houses in the neighborhood?
Yep. Looked at all that are in our price range, made offers on three (one we backed out of after inspection, one wanted list price and wouldn't budge and has been sitting for months, one wanted list, was a touch out of our budget (we offered 8k under) and went under contract in 8 days, probably for list).
I know there will be tons more in the spring and we will find one no problem, but I want out of our tiny rental house and i am sick of house hunting, so I am being crabby and impatient. But not so impatient that I want to live next to a hotel.
I think the house is priced right for the neighborhood if it was in a normal lot, but even if they knocked 20k off the price I don't think it would be worth living next to a hotel. In fact, the more I think about it, I think it would have to be more like 50k off the price, and that will never happen!
Cute house, but that's a definite deal breaker and even if it's not for you personally, when/if you try to sell the house it will be a deal breaker for a lot of potential buyers.

In my area, homeless and those being "rehabilitated" (including Previous sex offenders) are often given free vouchers to stay in hotels like that. This can bring a lot of chaos to an otherwise nice hotel.

Definite deal breaker. When you look at the main pic of the house in the listing, you can see the hotel looming. I would def not want to live that close to a hotel.

Ok, glad I am not crazy. SBP, the price is throwing me, too. That is part of why I thought maybe I was the only one who found it a no-go, since the house seems priced as though it was not next to a hotel.
We cancelled the showing and our realtor gave feedback that the hotel was the reason.
