DS birthday party is next weekend- it's going to be SUPER low key, just our family, about 8 adults and 6 kids. It's from 3-4:30, so all I really want is just a few things that people can munch on while chatting and hanging out. I'm definitely making a fruit salsa with cinnamon chips. I also thought a variety plate of cheese/crackers/sausage, or I could make some mini Mac and cheese bites. I need something else, though. Perhaps a salty trail mix/popcorn/goldfish concoction? I'm at loss for a 3rd item to throw on the table. Any ideas or thoughts? There will be cupcakes, of course, as well.
Edit: oh, and when I search for "finger foods" on pinterest, about half of the results are actual appetizers shaped like a finger, lol.
This one is probably nest trashy but they always disappear . Cut a package of bacon into thirds. Wrap bacon around little smoky and secure with a toothpick. Cover with brown sugar, bake at 350ish until bacon is done to your liking (20 - 35 mins). sometimes I take them out after 20 minutes and let them finish off in the crock pot for an hour or so on high. Line your pan with foil or clean up is awful.
fresh veggies with dip? My family would munch on them, h's family it would go untouched.
Puppy chow or the white chocolate/m&m snack mix
good bread with an oil/herb dip usually disappears quickly at my house and it's easy
I really like making (and eating) caprese skewers, they are easy to make and so delish.
This would be my suggestion too. Or what about the ham and pickle rollups (probably nest trashy too but people love them here!)
I like the caprese skewers idea. I hadn't thought of that! And puppy chow...mmmm! Sarah, I'd love to do meatballs, but one of the families coming is vegetarian and I'd hate to knowingly make a meat app when I'm not making many to begin with. Lastly, can I just say that I love the term "nest trashy"? Memories of th good old days right there!
I delurked earlier and now there's no stopping me. I have some vegetarian family members, and I make a version of the Pillsbury crescent veggie pizza. Pillsbury shows it as a Christmas tree, but you can line up the circles in another shape. I actually made a dinosaur shaped one for my son's bday a few years ago. I simplify the recipe by using Philly's veggie cream cheese instead of adding the dill and garlic powder. I also like to add some finely shredded cheddar-jack cheese on top.
