I finally sold our old coffee table that I posted about it a while ago.
And have since moved my basement coffee upstairs. It looks much better than before, but I can't decide if I should paint it or not...
I bought some of Martha Stewart's metallic "vintage gold" paint (not yellow gold, more of a champagne) and was considering slapping a coat of it on the table so it wasn't so dark, but I am scared I will lose all sophistication if I do that.
I like the space a lot and I think the table looks nice there as it is. That being said, I think the champagne color sounds awesome! Do you have to brush it on? If you can remove the glass, I'm thinking spray might go better.
Thanks! All of the glass inserts come out and I have bought some foam brushes to use...but was also thinking of using a small roller. Unfortunately, the paint doesn't come in a spray.
On another note, do you think the space NEEDS a rug? I am guessing most people would say yes, but we like the nakedness under the coffee table for functional purposes, but I am wondering if I kind of need one to complete the space....so many decisions.
I think the table could look good with the paint, but not just painted solid with the gold. I always think the metallic paint finishes that either allow a bit of the original color to show through or are purposely layered, (like the mirror in this post suburbsmama.blogspot.com/2012/09/refinishing-my-mirror-with-martha.html ), have more dimension and character. I actually liked it when she just used the one color and hadn't gotten full coverage, (I have a pretty metal frame sofa table that looks similar close up) but the finished frame was very pretty too.
I kinda like the nakedness under the coffee table. It's feels very airy and simple.
This! I actually just donated a bunch of rugs. There's something so fresh and clean but still cozy enough about it. That and I got tired of vaccuuming the damn things.
As for the coffee table, I prefer it as is. That room is so classy and stylish with a very polished look to it. I think painting the coffee table would make it more casual like..and I'm not real sure that's the look you want. I'm also pretty anti painting everything I see lately...sometimes stuff is fine just as it is.

I like it as is. If you do decide to paint, beware that Martha Stewart paint will scratch off rather easily. I used a bit for a ceiling medallion. The Rustolem metallic paint is a much better option.
I think the dark color grounds the space and ties in with your pictures. I think it might be too neutral if you paint it a champagne color.
I like the space without a rug. Light and airy all the way! I roll up our living room area rug in the summer for that affect, but its soo cold in the winter we need something between the tile and our feet when were sitting on the couch.
