This is our laundry/pantry under our stairs. We have stacking W/D to the right of the photo. These racks were supposed to be temporary and here we are 4 years later with them.
We're going to be replacing the shelving with melamine shelving. What I'm debating is whether to do all the same depth shelving or do the two top shelves slightly shorter. Right now DH thinks a 16" depth would be best, but I'm wondering if the top two at 12" would be better.

Another vote for same depth - if anything you might have the top shelf items away from the back wall b/c you'll never see the stuff pressed back against the wall. That's how my pantry is.
I don't think my PIP would be of any help (or let me know if you want to see ). Based on my research about pantry shelves, you can go deeper on the lower shelves. But for the higher shelves, 12" is recommended. Can't remember where I've read that. I looked at tons of sites about pantries.
