One day only really does stink. If work is paying for your flight, can you pay to extend the return flight a day or two? And if not, that's still 24 hours in Paris. Even subtracting time at a conference, that is plenty of time to eat wonderful, glorious food and pastries, stroll the streets, and soak in the sounds of the city. Screw sleeping, there is plenty of time for that on the plane!

I definitely think you should take advantage of your time there! If you'd actually go sightsee/enjoy it, I'm all for you extending your trip!!

Take a week and make the jet lag worth it!
